Yes, you can usually use FSA or HSA money on breast pump parts. The IRS counts breast pumps and "supplies that assist lactation" as medical care, so flanges, flange inserts, collection cups and replacement pump parts generally qualify. At Idaho Jones, that goes further: every product we sell, including pump bags and milk coolers, is HSA and FSA eligible.

Every product on idaho-jones.com is HSA and FSA eligible. Pay with your HSA or FSA card at checkout through Flex. See how it works

If your FSA runs on the calendar year, unspent money may disappear on December 31. So if you've been putting off the flanges that actually fit, this is the month.

Are breast pump supplies FSA and HSA eligible?

Yes. In 2011 the IRS ruled (Announcement 2011-14) that breast pumps and supplies that assist lactation are medical care. That means you can pay for them with a health FSA, HSA or HRA. The exact list of what your plan accepts is up to your plan administrator, so check their eligible items list if you're unsure.

Elsewhere, what counts can vary by store and by plan. Here's how it breaks down when you shop with us:

Item HSA/FSA eligible at Idaho Jones?
Flanges, flange inserts, base connectors Yes
Collection cups, valves, membranes, tubing adapters Yes
Pump bags, belt bags, backpacks and totes Yes
Milk coolers and ice packs Yes
Milk storage bags, milk catchers, pumping lubricant Yes
Nursing pads and comfort products Yes

When does my FSA money expire?

Most health FSAs are use-it-or-lose-it. Your employer can soften that in one of two ways: let you carry over up to $680 from 2026 into 2027, or give you a grace period of up to two and a half months into the new year. Plans can offer one or the other, or neither. Your benefits portal will say which you have.

HSA money never expires. It rolls over every year, so there's no rush there.

What's actually worth buying with leftover FSA money?

Your insurance pump came with hard plastic 24mm flanges. Many moms need something smaller, and plenty of us find hard plastic uncomfortable. If you're going to spend pre-tax money on one thing, make it fit.

1. Flanges in your actual size

Cushy silicone breast pump flanges come in 13mm to 27mm and are softer than standard hard plastic. They were developed with Jessica Anderson, IBCLC, of Genuine Lactation, and they're especially good if you have elastic or sensitive nipples. $27 each. Not sure of your size? Start with our flange sizing guide.

2. Flange inserts, if you want to test a smaller size cheaply

Silicone flange inserts sit inside your 24mm flange and bring it down to 13, 15, 17, 18, 19 or 21mm. $13.49 each.

3. Collection cups, if you want to move while you pump

Pump-A-Collect collection cups sit inside your bra instead of hanging bottles off your chest, and they work with all major pump brands. You keep the pump you have. $64.99.

How do I pay with my FSA or HSA?

On idaho-jones.com it takes one step. We partner with Flex, so at checkout you choose Flex | Pay with HSA/FSA and enter your HSA or FSA card. Every item in your cart qualifies, and Flex handles the paperwork.

No HSA or FSA card? Choose Flex anyway and pay with a regular card. Flex emails you an itemized receipt to submit to your plan for reimbursement. Full details are on our HSA and FSA page.

Quick tip: if you don't see the Flex option at checkout, log out of Shop Pay or check out in a private browser window.

One timing note: for a calendar-year FSA, what usually matters is the purchase date, not the reimbursement date. Order before December 31, then file the claim in January if you need to. Check your plan's claim deadline.
