Step 2

Measure Your Nipple Size

  • Cut out the provided nipple ruler.
  • Position Piece 1 with the ruler side facing outward, aligning it with the right edge of your nipple.
  • Place Piece 2 next to the left edge of your nipple, ensuring that it runs parallel to Piece 1.
  • The number on the ruler that aligns with Piece 2 represents your nipple diameter measurement (excluding the areola).

Step 3

Choose Your Flange Size

  • Check Your Number: The ruler reading where the two pieces meet is your nipple diameter.
  • Find Your Size: Add 0–4 mm to that diameter to identify your optimal flange size. Many Idaho Jones customers add about 2 mm for the best fit.
  • ✅ Correct Fit

    • The nipple can move freely in the tunnel without excessive friction.
    • The areola remains outside the tunnel.
    • Comfortable suction and efficient milk expression.
  • ❌ Too Small

    • Nipple rubs against the tunnel walls.
    • Discomfort or pain during pumping.
    • Limited milk flow.
  • ❌ Too Large

    • Too much of the areola is pulled into the tunnel.
    • Reduced suction efficiency.
    • Decreased milk output.
  • ❌ Elastic Nipples

    • Nipple stretches too far into the tunnel.
    • May benefit from the Cushy Silicone Flanges which keep the nipple in place.
